Expecting the price to decrease. Bearish investors are pessimistic about the prospects of an asset, and usually sell the asset in expectation of the price going down. These negative investors are contrasted to bullish investors who are optimistic about an asset’s behavior and believe its price is likely to rise. The reason we use the bear metaphor when talking about optimistic investors is because bears attack downwards with their claws.
